Many people make resolutions when the New Year arrives, but many others have decided to do so no longer. They have tried in the past only to give up on it with days or weeks and feel that they are a waste of time. Yet, goal setting remains a way to help achieve the things people are after. The good news is that there are practical things that people can do to help improve their success rate when it comes to New Year's resolutions.

“Rather than shrugging off those resolutions and goals for 2025, take steps to increase the chances of being successful," explains Jennifer Scherer, a registered dietitian nutritionist, medical exercise specialist, certified personal trainer, and owner of Fredericksburg Fitness Studio. “People can do some great things to help achieve what they want."

According to Ohio State University, there are four main reasons why people fail with their New Year's resolutions. These include setting goals for the sake of tradition rather than because they need a change, not reducing obstacles to success, not being motivated to reach them, not celebrating milestones, and not taking accountability measures.

Taking steps to plan out goals and knowing the tips and tricks to increase one's success rate can help ensure people are on the right path. The things they need to do to increase their success rate need to be practical, though, or they won't want to stick with them and see them through.

Here are some practical tips for improving and achieving one’s New Year’s resolution success rate:

Be clear about them. Setting clear goals is necessary to achieve them and know if the efforts are coming close. There needs to be a definable goal and mini-goals along the way to get there.

Create a mantra. Creating a mantra can be a powerful way to help people stay focused and centered and be more successful in achieving their goals. Research published in the International Journal of Yoga confirms that having a mantra has physical and mental benefits. Coming up with a meaningful mantra and reciting it throughout the day or doing mantra meditation can do wonders to help people achieve their goals.

Get support. Everyone needs support and encouragement to reach goals, especially when they start feeling like they are falling behind. Whether working with a professional, phoning a friend, or joining a support group, get the needed help.

Celebrate milestones. People must celebrate milestones along the way. Doing so will help keep the motivation going. It helps people feel as though they are achieving something and that their goal is moving closer to being achieved.

Remember your why. Many people forget the reason behind setting a goal to begin with. It is important to do a daily or weekly reminder of the why behind the goal. Whether it is to be able to run around with grandchildren, take a mile walk, or wear a smaller size, the reminder will help keep people motivated and the commitment renewed.

“We are happy to help support people with their health, fitness, and wellness goals," added Scherer. "We help with the accountability, creating a program tailored for you, and keeping you motivated along the way. You can be healthier in 2025, and we can help make it happen!"

Those looking for an excellent gift for those on their list may consider giving the gift of health. Giving people gifts that will help support their health and fitness resolutions will go a long way toward making them more accessible and keeping them feeling supported. Great healthy holiday gifts include gift cards to healthy restaurants, gyms, massages, wellness consultations, etc.
