Estée Lauder Makeup Adds Glam Rock Look to Collection

Estée Lauder is making fashion news by causing beauty buffs to do a double-take when they see the brand's fall makeup collection. The company's new addition, Violet Underground, is not what you’d expect from the brand that is synonymous with the soft faces of Elizabeth Hurley and Joan Smalls. Palettes of pigmented shadows, glosses, and nail lacquers are quite the opposite of the light blush shades that Estée Lauder usually sticks to, but the different look that channels glam rock is already being well received by customers— and we think you’ll love it too.
The drama of underground style is achieved through the deep, vibrant violet and fuchsia tones that are dominant throughout this collection. Combined with the luxury of couture formulas, the cosmetic line translates the jewel-toned palette into six products — five of those being limited edition — that come in an array of shades.
The limited edition Pure Color Eyeshadow Palette is the star, mixing the line’s bold violet shades with a sensual pale pink and powerful matte black. At $48, the gelee formula used in this compact is a combination of a gel, powder, and liquid to make the shadow glide (and stay) on easier than powders. We recommend putting the shadows on over wet or sticky bases, as using them dry may allow them to fade easily.
The limited edition Pure Color Quick-Thick Eyeliner is another pillar of this collection. At $21.50, blackened pigments are easy to apply with an easy-to-use marker-like tip that allows for precise application. This product is the essence of “punk rock chic” that Estée Lauder is after, giving you the ability to step up your look in one swift stroke.
Finally, the “Black Iris” shade is a welcome—but temporary— addition to the Pure Color Nail Lacquer collection. Not to worry, the color actually isn’t black at all, but a deep plum that will add drama to your fall look. The $20 bottle will allow you to transform to glam rock from head to toe with just one coat. Other products in the Pure Color Violet Underground Fall 2012 Collection include a mascara, lipstick, and lip gloss.
