This Luxury Añejo Cristalino Is Aged in White Wine Barrels

Tequila Komos

Richard Betts (founder and creator of Sombra Mezcal and Astral Tequila, and wine companies Betts & Scholl and Scarpetta) set out to redefine what an Añejo Cristalino tequila is by producing the top-shelf spirit using a unique production process that ages the liquid in French oak white wine barrels (instead of bourbon barrels).

If you haven’t already met, consider this your formal introduction to Tequila Komos.

The one-of-a-kind, handcrafted tequila inspired by European winemaking techniques is then stored in amphorae after a careful purification process to produce a unique crystal-clear, extremely smooth tequila with a delicate, light taste.

Tequila Komos

Tequila Komos made its debut in the US late last year and quickly sold out of the first three batches produced in Jalisco, Mexico. The ultra-premium Añejo Cristalino offers a complex fruity and floral flavor profile with hints of sugared pineapple, bright agave freshness and lime zest along with hints of vanilla as well as spice from the French oak white wine barrels.

The smooth finish is mineral-driven and dry, but the roundness of the aging process is detected with the delicate sweetness on your palate. Each luxury bottle is handmade using clay, with nods to the Mediterranean.

Be sure to also check out Komos’ two new expressions released just in time for fall – a rosé tequila called Tequila Komos Reposado Rosa and an Extra Añejo aged for a minimum of three years.

Tequila Komos is best enjoyed chilled or with a dash of sparkling water. Suggested Retail Price: $119.99. For more information, visit
