Volvo Cars x Sergio Hudson: Power Dressing Meets Scandinavian Design

Two South Carolina stories intertwine this fall in a collaboration that fuses runway confidence with Scandinavian restraint. To celebrate its 70th anniversary in the United States, Volvo Cars has teamed up with Ridgeway-born fashion designer Sergio Hudson—a name synonymous with modern American power dressing—to create a capsule of wearable luxury inspired by the fully electric Volvo EX90, assembled in Charleston.

The result? Two limited-edition pieces—a tailored car coat and an elegant belt—that reinterpret the EX90’s sustainably crafted cabin materials as couture. Each is made-to-order and crafted in the United States, launching exclusively online in the US, Canada, and the UK beginning October 20, 2025.

From the Cabin to the Catwalk

Hudson, known for his commanding silhouettes and impeccable tailoring (and fresh from dressing nearly two dozen guests for the 2025 Met Gala), found creative inspiration in the EX90’s minimalist interior—an aesthetic Volvo calls its “Scandinavian living room.” The designer immersed himself in the brand’s Charleston plant, studying how the SUV’s clean lines, calm color palette, and tactile materials come together to create a space that feels both rational and soulful.

“Visiting the Charleston Plant, I was struck by the intentionality behind every design choice,” Hudson said. “The EX90 is warm, sophisticated, and mindfully crafted. I wanted to capture that same feeling of elevated comfort and conscious luxury in pieces that make you feel elegant and confident.”

That ethos materializes in two standout designs, each merging Volvo’s sustainable materials with Hudson’s precise, empowering aesthetic.

The Platinum Jubilee Collection

The Tailored Wool Blend Car Coat ($1,895) channels the golden era of driving attire with a modern sensibility. Cut from the same responsibly sourced wool used in the EX90’s seat upholstery, the coat is distinguished by an oversized silhouette—sharp but comfortable, allowing for ease behind the wheel. Its mid-thigh length nods to the heritage of classic car coats while reflecting the relaxed sophistication of Hudson’s tailoring.

Meanwhile, the Nordico in Dawn Belt ($225) transforms Volvo’s own innovation—the three-point seatbelt—into a sleek fashion accessory. Crafted from Nordico, a soft yet durable bio-attributed material with a 100% recycled polyester backing, the belt features a platinum-inspired buckle embossed with the Volvo Cars and Sergio Hudson logos. In the subtle Dawn colorway, it’s an understated homage to seven decades of Swedish design and engineering excellence.

Both pieces are part of a “Platinum Jubilee” celebration marking Volvo’s 70 years in the U.S.—a tribute to craftsmanship, safety, and the evolution of luxury itself.

Shared Ground in the South

Beyond the aesthetic harmony, the partnership carries a deeper resonance: both Hudson and Volvo share roots in South Carolina, a state that has quietly become a hub of American craftsmanship and innovation. Hudson hails from Ridgeway, while Volvo assembles its flagship electric SUV just outside Charleston, in Ridgeville.

“This collaboration is a celebration of luxurious style, purpose, and our presence in the Charleston area,” said Kelly Mason, Head of Communications for Volvo Car Americas. “By joining forces with Sergio Hudson, we’re merging automotive design with a modern vision of fashion in a collection that empowers you to feel more confident.”

That shared sense of purpose—blending sustainability, craftsmanship, and self-assurance—anchors the project. What begins as a story about a car and a coat becomes a reflection of how luxury itself is evolving: less about excess, more about intention.

Redefining the Journey

Volvo’s philosophy has always centered on movement—safe, sustainable, and beautifully designed. Now, that vision extends beyond the driver’s seat. Through Hudson’s lens, the idea of travel becomes sartorial: how we carry ourselves, what we choose to wear, and how design can mirror our values.

As Volvo marks seven decades on American roads, the collaboration feels like a fitting next chapter—a fusion of Swedish serenity and American strength, bound by craft, purpose, and a shared South Carolina soul.

The Volvo Cars x Sergio Hudson collection will be available in limited quantities beginning October 20, 2025, exclusively online at volvocars.com/us/l/sergio-hudson.
