It will be another Fourth of July to remember in the
City of Brotherly Love
with the Aronimink Golf Club hosting the
PGA Tour's 2010 AT&T National tournament on the Fourth of July weekend. Newtown Square, which is just south of Philadelphia, is the actual site of the event that runs June 29 to July 4.
Acclaimed golf architect Donald Ross designed the championship-level golf course at the Aronimink Golf Club in 1928. The course is par-70 and stretches out 7,237 yards. Its outlay is as challenging as the scenery is picturesque. With more than 100 bunkers, slopes, valleys, and doglegs, the course has knocked the par out of the score of many top-flight golfers.
The $6.2 million prize money at AT&T National attracts the best players on the PGA circuit. This year's winner will receive more than $1.1 million. Three 2010 PGA Tour winners, Jim Furyk, Hunter Mahan, and Dustin Johnson, are among the early entrants to a field that is filling out splendidly.
Many pro golfers view the AT&T National as a primer to the British Open, which comes up two weeks later, July 16-19. The British Open will be played in South Ayrshire, Scotland, on the par-70 Alisa Course at the Turnberry Resort. Kilts are optional.
