The sale of a 1909 Korean gold-coin set for more than $1.39 million was the most expensive lot sold at the two-day auction held September 8-9, in Long Beach, California. Artist Takashi Murakami will select the artists who will donate their works to the relief effort in an upcoming auction to be held in New York City. An announcement with complete details for the auction will be made in early fall. What is known at this point is that the artists contributing are some of the biggest names in contemporary art.
