WHAT: Step inside the Kimpton Gray Hotel and become a part of an internationally renowned photography destination, Fotografiska. Created by two brothers from Sweden, Fotografiska is the world’s largest photography museum, built on the principle foundation of photography as a safe haven of innovation, inclusivity, and self-expression.
In 2020, the acclaimed Swedish destination, opened a new location in New York City. To celebrate the new opening, Kimpton Hotels & Resorts and Fotografiska created a partnership to bring select pieces to three cities. The intimate traveling exhibit will be housed at The Gray throughout the month of August. Located on the 2nd floor Living Room, the exhibit is open to the public and hotel guests and is complimentary to visit, no tickets required.
The curated photo collection from three female photographers is inspired by human connections and how they impact our lives. Featured artists include Evelyn Bencicova, Kelia Anne MacCluskey and Elizabeth Bick. While visiting, guests can enjoy a QR code audio guide that takes listeners behind the scenes into each artist’s process and into the setting of the photo.
WHEN: Sunday, August 1 to Sunday, August 22, 2021
WHERE: The Living Room, 2nd floor, at Kimpton Gray Hotel, 122 W Monroe St, Chicago, IL 60603
WHY: Fotografiska is a cutting-edge gathering place for photography in Stockholm and the Kimpton Gray Hotel is the 2021 Official Hotel Sponsor. Together the hotel and photography destination created a collection of photographs with three incredible female artists, inspired by the Kimpton brand’s philosophy of “Stay Human.” A reminder to connect with each other and ourselves, “Stay Human” advises everyone to take pause in our busy daily lives and remember the importance of human connection. The traveling exhibit premiered in 2020 at Fotografiska’s gleaming new six-story New York City outpost. From July through September, it’s slated to tour three U.S. cities.
