Hyatt Regency Seattle Celebrates Sustainability

Opened in December 2018, the Hyatt Regency Seattle is the first and only LEED Gold-Certified hotel in Emerald City. This environmentally sustainable hotel is in the business for caring for people, as well as enriching the neighborhood and community by reducing, recycling and reusing local products. Sustainability is a natural extension of Hyatt’s purpose.

Meeting with Abby Polasko, Area Director of Marketing at A Seattle Collection, she shared that the hotel earned a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified designation. This internationally recognized green building system, provides third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies intended to improve energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions, and improved indoor environmental quality.

Walking through the lobby, she pointed to soaring glass windows allowing natural light to bathe the rooms. During construction the builders used regionally sourced, manufactured, and recycled materials that can be seen throughout the public areas. About 95% of construction waste was diverted from landfills.

The building also uses 30% less water than a comparable building, through their dual flush toilets and low-flow plumbing fixtures. Automatic occupancy lighting sensors reduce energy usage by 18%.

Polasko's consortium of three Hyatt properties includes Hyatt Regency Seattle, Grand Hyatt Seattle and Hyatt at Olive 8. They are within a block of each other in the Convention Center area of the city. The brand new Summit Convention Center opened recently across the street from the Hyatt Regency.

The Hyatt Regency Seattle offers numerous green transportation options for guests to explore the city. It's location is within blocks of over 60 separate public transportation routes. Taking a cab, Lyft or Uber from the airport will cost between $40 to $50 dollars. The Seattle Light Rail from SeaTac Airport to the Westlake stop is only $3 for riders 19 years old and up. This Light Rail stop is 3 blocks from the hotel.

Highly efficient elevators take guests up to 1,260 guest rooms ranging in size from 320 to 460 square feet. Those seeking more space can request one of the 30 suites spanning 635 to 1,800 square feet. Each modern room features a bright, open floorplan with either a comfortable king bed or two queen beds. Most rooms have walk in showers in the bathrooms, however the ADA rooms and suites offer deep soaking bathtubs too.

Guests who stay in a view room will enjoy oversized windows and a wide sitting ledge to take in the sights of one of the most architecturally interesting cities in the world. Located in the heart of downtown, one can walk easily to numerous Seattle attractions including Pikes Public Market, the first Nordstrom and first Starbucks Coffee Shop.

Guests can also walk three blocks to take the Monorail at the Westlake Stop next to Nordstrom to the Seattle Center. This is where the iconic Space Needle, Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP), Seattle Center Armory, International Fountain, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center are located.

On the eighth floor is the fitness center and the Regency Lounge, a sophisticated communal area with computers to work, large televsions to catch the news or a sporting event, plus complimentary drinks and light snacks. Doors lead outside for guests to enjoy some sunshine on the garden deck.

There are three onsite dining options inside the Hyatt Regency for grab-and-go, a lively sit down and fine dining steak and seafood restaurant. The hotel's commitment to providing healthy and nutritional meals starts by supporting local boutique farms providing 50% of the locally grown high-quality produce and products used in the menus. About 60% of the seafood on the menu is from sustainably harvested businesses dedicated to ocean conservancy. All leftover and untouched food is donated to Food Lifeline, a local non-profit dedicated to helping to eliminate hunger in Western Washington.

Andare Kitchen combines Italian flavors with fresh Seattle ingredients. The all-day menus includes an array of breakfast items, salads, burrata and vegetable appetizers, wood-fired pizzas, homemade pastas and signature desserts.

Upstairs is Daniel's Broiler, part of the Schwartz Brothers portfolio, prides itself on providing a great meal in a distinctive atmosphere. Diners enjoy downtown views while enjoying USDA Prime steaks, seafood favorites, and an award-winning wine list. The bar offers some of the finest spirits from around the world, including 150 whiskey selections.

The Market on the second floor provides quick grab-and-go items, specialty coffees, pastries, freshly prepared sandwiches, salads and hot entrees prepared when ordered. 

All food and compostable waste is sent to Cedar Grove to be composted. This diverts 350,000 tons of yard and food waste from landfills in Washington State.

As part of the Seattle Collection, guests have charged to their room privileges at eateries located at all three Hyatt Hotels.

Tidal+ at the Hyatt at Olive 8 serves regional seafood, hand-crafted cocktails with local ingredients and an extensive selection of Washington wine and craft beer. The menu is over 50% gluten-free. Also in the lobby at Hyatt at Olive 8 is a bagel shop serving all natural Seattle's Blazing Bagels. They brew local coffee and espresso from Victrola Coffee Roasters featuring single-origin and blended coffee options.

The garage at Hyatt Regency Seattle has chargers for electric vehicles and preferred parking for fuel-efficient vehicles on level 2. Hyatt also works with a car rental agency offering 8 cars for guests to drive and explore the city.

During the summer cruise season to Alaska, the Hyatt Regency provides a shuttle service down to the Cruise Terminal for guests. Reserve at the concierge for a designated day and the charge will be forwarded to the guest's portfolio. The South Lake Union Trolley to the South Lake Union neighborhood is just two blocks, and guests can walk down to the Washington State Ferry at Pier 52 to explore Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, and Vashon Islands.
