Each year, more than 2.5 million visitors are drawn to Sarasota, Florida—known for its powdery Gulf Coast beaches, thriving arts scene, and timeless Old Florida charm. Whether you're here for the culture, the coast, or simply a bit of both, the area has long been a favorite for those seeking beauty with a laid-back vibe.

If you’re looking to elevate your experience, head just 20 minutes from downtown Sarasota to Longboat Key. Quiet, refined, and naturally stunning, this barrier island blends modern elegance with a relaxed pace, making it an ideal destination for families and couples alike. And at the center of this island escape sits the newly opened St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, offering one of the most memorable stays on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

A Grand Welcome with a Local Touch

Set on an expansive stretch of beachfront, the resort instantly impresses—yet manages to feel warm and personal. The lobby is both eye-catching and coastal in feel, featuring standout design elements like a sculptural bar and a custom mural by Florida artist William Savarese. The mural, inspired by local floral and aquatic life, ties the interior design directly to the surrounding natural environment.

Although luxurious, the resort is far from stuffy—our 5- and 1-year-old were immediately drawn to the self-playing grand piano, and the staff greeted them with genuine warmth and attention.

Spacious Rooms with Ocean Views

With 168 rooms, including 26 suites, the resort’s accommodations are spacious and thoughtfully designed. Expect plush beds, spa-like bathrooms, generous storage, and oversized balconies that offer sweeping views of the Gulf.

Pools, Play, and an Underwater Adventure

As a family, we found the pool area especially well designed. The family pool is shallow, maxing out at four feet, and features a zero-entry edge—perfect for babies and toddlers. Surrounding lounge areas are stocked with personal coolers of chilled water and a button for food or drink service.

The most unforgettable part of our stay was the “Under the Sea Lagoon,” a 350,000-gallon saltwater habitat home to over 2,000 tropical fish and 50 stingrays. Guests can book a snorkeling experience to swim with the sea life and even feed the rays. Our 5-year-old had his first snorkeling adventure here, guided by patient and enthusiastic aquarists who made him feel confident and safe.

Making the experience even sweeter, after staff found out it was his birthday, they made sure to track us down the next day with a thoughtful surprise—a special shark tooth keepsake. Big thanks to Cameron, who made sure it got to us and made our son’s day even more memorable.

Just across the lagoon, the resort’s two resident giant tortoises were another family favorite.

Dining & Spa

The property is home to seven distinct dining venues. Two standouts: Riva serves coastal Italian cuisine, with handmade pasta and fresh Gulf seafood, while CW Prime—the only spot in Southeast Florida using a Josper grill—offers expertly grilled steaks and seafood with a signature smoky flavor.

The St. Regis Spa is also a must. It features 14 treatment rooms and luxe amenities like a Finnish sauna, snow shower, and a menu of ocean-inspired treatments, including massages, facials and more.

Around Town

Sarasota is just a short drive from the St. Regis and has plenty to see and do for families. Start with Sarasota Jungle Gardens, a 10-acre park where you can walk among tropical plants and hand-feed free-roaming flamingos. You’ll also find a variety of animals like parrots and alligators, making it a fun stop for kids.

A visit to Sarasota wouldn’t be complete without seeing The Ringling. Once the winter home of circus owner John Ringling, this historic estate features a renowned art museum, detailed miniature circus models, and a collection of circus posters, costumes, and props. The Ca’ d’Zan mansion, with views over Sarasota Bay, offers insight into Florida’s rich history and culture.
