5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Pilates

Pilates is a form of exercise that some people have heard of, yet have no idea what it entails. Most people also have no idea how it can benefit the body. A study published in the March 2023 issue of the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport reports that Pilates provides benefits for several health issues, including helping with low back pain, neck pain, and scoliosis. 

A study published in the April 2023 issue of the journal BMC Sports Science, Medicine, and Rehabilitation reports that after four weeks of Pilates, there was an improvement in fatigue in the study participants. After eight weeks of doing it, participants had a significant improvement in sleep quality. 

In the December 2022 issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, researchers share their findings from a study of middle-aged women participating in a 12-week Pilates study. They conclude that the program significantly improved body composition, basal metabolic rate, and functional physical fitness.

Pilates can help bring relief to those who get tension headaches. A study published in the January 2023 issue of the journal Behavioral Sciences reports that engaging in four 30-minute Pilates classes over two weeks improved tension headaches and the ability to function in study participants. 

Women who suffer from sexual dysfunction may want to consider engaging in Pilates because research shows that it helps with the condition. A study published in the January 2023 issue of the leading Spanish language journal Revista Internacional de Andrología reports that the results of their study show Pilates can improve female sexual dysfunction, as the women in their 12-week study had a significant improvement.
