A Wonder-Filled Festive Treat: Maddie Moate’s Very Curious Christmas Returns to the West End

Mark Senior

This Christmas, beloved CBeebies presenter and BAFTA-winning science communicator Maddie Moate brings her Olivier Award-nominated festive adventure Maddie Moate’s Very Curious Christmas back to the West End – and she’s not coming alone.

Returning to the Garrick Theatre from Friday 12 December to Sunday 4 January, this family-friendly celebration of science and seasonal spirit promises to be one of the highlights of the Christmas theatre calendar. Maddie will once again lead audiences on an enchanting journey inside Santa’s workshop, joined by her trusty workshop helpers – Kira MacCarter as the exuberant ‘Tinker’ and Zain Abrahams as the ever-diligent ‘Goggles’. CBeebies favourite Jennie Dale reprises her role as ‘Mrs Claus’ in a special virtual appearance.

Written and created by Maddie herself, Maddie Moate’s Very Curious Christmas is a joyful blend of STEM discovery, festive fun and laughter. As Maddie embarks on work experience in Santa’s workshop, she quickly finds herself in the midst of a yuletide crisis. With the clock ticking towards Christmas Day and the elves in a spin, it’s up to Maddie and her young audience to use science, curiosity and a sprinkle of Christmas magic to save the day before Mrs Claus’s big visit.

Overflowing with hands-on experiments, giggles, and festive sparkle, this show captures the essence of what makes Maddie Moate such a beloved figure in family entertainment: an ability to weave wonder and learning seamlessly together.

Maddie said, “I’m so excited to be bringing Maddie’s Very Curious Christmas back to the West End – and this time with an Olivier nomination under our belt! I can’t wait to reunite with my friends, Santa’s helpers Goggles and Tinker, and of course Mrs Claus, as we share festive cheer and a tonne of science on stage!”

A familiar face to millions through Maddie’s Do You Know?, Show Me the Honey and Something Special, Maddie has become synonymous with accessible, curiosity-fuelled science storytelling. Beyond the screen, she has performed at the Royal Albert Hall for the CBeebies Prom, starred at Shakespeare’s Globe, and brought science to life for live audiences at the Edinburgh Fringe and London Wonderground.

Her award-winning YouTube channel has attracted over 90 million views and earned the title of Best Kids Channel at the 2022 Kidscreen Awards, while her children’s books – including Stuff, A Very Curious Christmas and How Does It Work? – continue to inspire budding scientists across the globe.

Maddie Moate’s Very Curious Christmas is an unmissable festive treat – a perfect fusion of education, entertainment, and Christmas joy that’s sure to delight children and grown-ups alike.

Performances run from Friday 12 December to Sunday 4 January at the Garrick Theatre.
