French Alps

If you ever dreamed of experiencing cloud 9, now you and your significant other can literally, know the feeling.  Two lucky couples will have the unprecedented opportunity to spend one night in an elegantly transformed cable car 9,000 feet in the air, overlooking the French Alps.  The altitude makes it perfect to disembark from your private jet charter and right into your room for the night. For avid skiers, this could be considered the St. Peter’s Basilica of the ski resort world. The welcoming confines of Courchevel, France offer the never to be duplicated, one night stay. The dream night comes thanks to the creative and clever minds of Airbnb. The tech startup has recently gained notoriety for matching people in search for accommodations with empty rooms and homes. The more than mile high, cable car stay continues the success of Airbnb’s “Night At The…” series. The series offers travelers exclusive and distinct stays at unorthodox places, where it’s never before been possible to spend the night. The overnight, cable car adventure follows recent stays in a KLM plane in Amsterdam, an Ikea in Australia, a Waterstones bookstore in London and Gallery Lafayette in Paris.

This latest contest sponsored by Airbnb will choose one lucky winner, who can invite 3 fortunate guests. The spectacular evening for ski enthusiasts requires entrants to visit Courchevel’s listing on Airbnb prior to the February 27th midnight deadline, and compose a 100 word paragraph explaining why they want to stay in the cable car. The elevated stay makes it the highest ever listed property on the service.

March 6thmarks the day that guests can occupy the cable car, and hope not to suffer vertigo. The cozy cable car overlooks Combe de Saulire, which holds the distinction of being the highest point of the Courchevel resort. After a full day of skiing, the cable car will be transformed in just a matter of hours. Guests will be required to run up the hills via snowmobile, to make their way to the Saulire cable car. Mulled wine and a traditional Savoyard, cheese fondue dinner await the guests when they arrive at the summit.

The luxurious Saulire cable car complete with fuzzy rugs and curtains over the windows, features a living room and a well-appointed bedroom. The accommodations appear unexpectedly inviting considering what people normally imagine ski gondolas to look like. As the cable car will be stationed at the top of the mountain throughout the night, guests will have access to all the facilities at the station, including the bathroom. After tucking in for the night, the next day will surely delight the most avid freeriders.

Perhaps the highlight of the whirlwind stay will be the chance to lay down the first tracks over fresh snow at dawn, before the lifts even move. As soon as the sun’s first rays peak over the tips of the French Alps, the lucky guests can enjoy the privilege of doing the first runs down untouched, virgin slopes. The overnight stay combined with the rare skiing opportunity the next morning will undoubtedly make for a majestic experience that will likely stay with the guests forever.

Airbnb currently boasts over one million listings worldwide. Airbnb caused a very recent media splash when a limo driver announced that he will rent out his Tesla Model S electric car, as a room, for a very affordable £58 a night.

All entries for the night in the Saluire cable car must be received by midnight on February 27. Go to the airbnb website for all full terms and conditions.
