L.A. Food & Wine Fest Celebrates 5 Years with New Wine Seminars & Lexus Culinary Masters

by Stefanie Parkinson

Just when you thought this week’s Los Angeles Food & Wine Festival couldn’t get any tastier, the city’s biggest annual foodie extravaganza will salute the newest Lexus Culinary Masters and has added three exclusive wine seminars during the August 27-30 extravaganza.

The Lexus Signature Series hosts a trio of dining experiences at Milk Studios with three key Lexus Culinary Masters Carlo Mirarchi, Michelle Bernstein, and Michael Chiarello.  First up is Chef Carlo Mirarchi of the Brooklyn hotspots Blanca and Roberta’s. On Friday, August 28 from 7 – 10 p.m., “A Supper with Lexus Culinary Master Michael Chiarello” rolls out an inventive multicourse dinner by the celebrity chef. Then start eating and drinking all over again the next morning at the aptly-named “Boozy Brunch” with Lexus Culinary Master Michelle Bernstein (Saturday, August 29, 12 noon-2 p.m.) showcasing a special menu by the Miami chef of Cena by Michy, and fueled by hand-crafted cocktails, with a live soundtrack by DJ Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots.

Just added, three fun and informative wine seminars will be held at Faith & Flower in Downtown Los Angeles, far (enough) from the maddening crowds of the main street event. Very limited seating means that oenophiles will have intimate one-on-one access to some of the wine world’s most revered experts as they taste and learn about some of the world’s most prestigious wines.

Next Generation Cult Cabernets (Saturday, August 29, 11am-12:15pm) will examine the cult of cab and the rough economic waters currently shifting the wine market and lovers of the “perfect” cabernet sauvignon. The World of Super Tuscans (Saturday, August 29, 4:30pm-5:45pm) devotes attention to spectacular- quality wines that superbly express the quality and skill of a wine producer and his enologist. More than a vertical of several vintages, this ticketed event will bring them all to the table. Krug Champagne & Black River Caviar (Sunday, August 30, 11am-12:15pm) pairs the legendary Champagne with a decadent caviar tasting in what just might be the most extravagant session in this year’s Los Angeles Food and Wine.

Other standout events include the Lexus Ultimate Bites of L.A. hosted by Chef Curtis Stone, the Faith & Flower Lunch with chefs Jason Franey, Michael Ginor and Josh Graves, the Lexus Grand Avenue Night Market with 30 chefs, cooking demos with Chefs Tyler Florence, Antonia Lofaso, and Alex Guarnaschelli, and the final night blowout Lexus Live on Grand featuring The Roots in concert.  On sale now, tickets for individual events range from $50-$350, with package and VIP options starting at $650.
