Inspired by a trip to the Alps, Zoë Jordan’s Fall 2015 collection is entitled Serac, the French-Swiss word for a “block or column of glacial ice.” And that’s exactly what was seen in her ready-to-wear presentation today. A winter lineup of arctic shades dominate the color palette for a collection of cool-girl suiting, fur-trimmed outerwear and menswear-borrowed silhouettes. It is both a literal interpretation of winter and a fashionable experimentation of what seasonal dressing can be.
A play on textures, cuts and color allow the collection to remain relevant and remarkably on-point considering the NYFW competition. Coats look wearable and warm, often over or undersized, but done with purpose and intention. Some are made entirely of sheepskin, while others have only small accents for visual texture rather than function. There is no shortage of on-trend cuts and most pieces look easy enough to pull right off of the runway and toss into our closets.
For day, light colors, open jackets and movable fabrics are favored, while evening pieces play with an aurora borealis of color, or the ombré patterns of icy, glacial waters. Others are printed with snow-tipped rock formations or done in black angular shapes. With both day and night pieces, jackets were styled open, leaving skin bare or paired with masculine loafers to add a casual vibe. Despite how straightforward the collection is both in inspiration and execution, it stays just this side of fashionable, allowing the heavy-handed inspiration to be simultaneously blatant and imperceptible.
