For years the Rag & Bone runway has been a NYFW favorite. Not only do designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright know how to put on a show, but they know how to create a collection that people want. Nothing is too conceptual, everything is easy to wear and it’s just plain cool. This season for Fall 2016, they put on a joint men’s and womenswear show, with a live percussion performance from Mauro Refosco and Joey Waronker from Atoms for Peace.
The duo gave an athletic twist to their streetwear with heavy skate and street racing influences that echoed the feel of last season. Utilitarian pockets, heavy closures and everyday materials like canvas and nylon kept everything urban and modern. Pieces were elevated with the minimal use of fabrics like shearling, Japanese selvage denim and fur. It was a look they’ve done before, but one that they’ve perfected and refined over the years.
Everything was casual and intentionally unkempt. Sweaters were slung off shoulders, sleeves dropped below the wrist and straight-leg jeans were slashed along the thigh and knee as if the model was rebelling against the notion of traditional fashion. But then again the “f--k you attitude”—as Wainwright called it backstage before the show—was exactly what they were going for.
