A much as we love our modern watches and cool robo-looking timepieces, we’re pretty big fans of vintage pieces, which is probably why we love the Breitling Transocean Chronograph Edition. Inspired by a 1958 model, the original Transocean watch was a celebration of international air travel which was just hitting its stride at the time. In honor of “great journeys and luxury long-haul aircrafts,” Breitling is releasing the limited-edition reinterpretation of the original timepiece as a tribute to the brand’s deep connections to aviation.

To maintain the excellence and exclusivity of Breitling watches, the Transocean Chronograph Edition will be limited to 2,000 pieces and the movement will be kept up to the watchmakers standards with a manufacture Breitling Caliber 01 (officially chronometer-certified by the COSC), self-winding mechanical movement, a high-frequency with 28,800 v.p.h. and 47 jewels. The timepiece also offers an over 7-hour power reserve, a fourth-of-a-second chronograph and 30-minute totalizer.

The original timepiece was anti-shock, anti-magnetic and ultra-precise, a must for the pilots who were soon going to be flying passengers all over the globe. The newest Transocean Chronograph Edition has two vintage-style counters on the 43mm glare-proof watch face, a date window at six o’clock, hour markers and an 18 karat gold B initial at the 12 o’clock hour. On the reverse is a hidden double back—a sterling silver casing that opens up to reveal a sapphire crystal backing though which the interior mechanics can be seen. Two models are available, one with a steel mesh bracelet and the other with barenia or crocodile leather.

The Breitling Transocean Chronograph Edition is available at fine watch boutiques worldwide and starts at $9,140.
