Handmade in New Zealand, the Cradle chair from Richard Clarkson Studio is a beautiful interpretation of that old rocking chair in your parents attic—the one that may or may not be haunted. Crafted using local materials, the big basket-like seat allows adults to relive the innocent joy of being rocked to sleep. Plus, not only does it look neat, the design was inspired by autistic children and serves a very therapeutic purpose.
The company researched autism and children with Rhythmic Movement Disorder (RMD) prior to the design of Cradle. The rocking chair is intended to calm over-stimulated senses by providing whoever curls up in the cushions with a safe, comfortable, and relaxing space. The removable padding is all-natural pure New Zealand wool, with the exterior made from a natural cotton canvas that has been treated with a plant-based stain repellent. Even the glue used on the wood is a special non-toxic aliphatic variety.
Cradle is shipped disassembled and costs $8,400.
