The Taghkanic House looks like a modern art museum set in the middle of rolling hills that could easily be the setting of a Jane Austen novel. The $5.9 million contemporary estate is actually in New York’s Hudson Valley and sits on 115 acres to ensure some serious peace and quiet. Designed by architect Thomas Phifer (who is best known for for the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh), the 8,800-square-foot home is nearly entirely transparent, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls and large open spaces.

On the market through Houlihan Lawrence, the six-bedroom house features a chef’s kitchen, family area, library, movie theater, gym, a guest wing with four bedrooms, indoor pool and sauna. Outside are a number of natural and man-made ponds, including a reflecting pool garden placed right outside the family room, as well as an outdoor pool, and tennis and bocce courts.

Of course, you guests will probably want some privacy of their own, which is when the three-bedroom glass guest house comes in handy.
