With the year coming to a close, we thought we'd take a look back at 2011's most popular and highest grossing movies. Book adaptations and sequels were big this year, with only two films on the top 10 list not falling in that category. And what is the highest grossing movie worldwide for 2011? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 takes the gold with $1,328,111,219 to be exact, according to Box Office Mojo as of December 7, 2011.

Coming in second is Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon with just over $1.1 billion for the year and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides slides into third with slightly more than $1 billion. Rounding out the top 10 is a second Johnny Depp movie, Rio raking in $484 million.
