Europe offers some of the most enthralling supercar experiences found anywhere in the world. With dangerous mountainous roads to breathtakingly beautiful seaside routes, there are a ton of touring options one may add to their road trip bucket list. But there are only five that we have chosen as the top European drives to take before you die. Even better, we’ve matched them each with a supercar that will make the experience truly unforgettable. Since it’s not always practical to transport your Ferrari or Lamborghini around the world—and if you love supercars you will want to try as many as you can—we recommend the option of renting the autos for your adventures.

Amalfi Coast With the Ferrari 458

The Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular and picturesque destinations in Europe, not just Italy. Cruising down the winding roads is an unforgettable experience. The emerald crystal blue sea glimmering down below on one side and the spectacular, yet somewhat ominous, cliffs on the other will leave any driver speechless. Couple the experience with the eye-catching, spine-tingling Ferrari 458 and you have one of the most unforgettable experiences imaginable.

The Ferrari 458 is a hardtop convertible, so no matter what weather you experience, you won’t be disappointed. Of course, flicking the switch on the automatic roof and then smashing the pedal to the metal is really the only way to do it. Combining speed, elegance and faultless engineering, the astonishingly desirable Ferrari 458 Italia is probably the best mid-engined performance Supercar available to hire today.

Make sure you have your reflexes ready as you grip the Ferrari’s ergonomically designed steering wheel, as at times the roads will require you to have your wits about you. The narrow serpent-like routes will test you at times, but would you want it any other way?

Furka Pass With the Lamborghini Aventador or Aston Martin DB5

The Furka Pass offers a breath-taking drive that is an absolute must when it comes to supercar bucket lists. It is a stunning high mountain pass in the Swiss Alps offering stupendous views that will remain etched in your brain for years to come. Some may dub this drive a little on the dangerous side; however, we would have to say it’s not so much dangerous as it is exhilarating, offering a white-knuckle experience. We wouldn’t want it any different.

We recommend renting the Lamborghini Aventador for this drive. Why? Simply put, this car is one of the greatest machines ever made. It’s lightweight and great for ‘slinging’ around corners, while the handling is the perfect accessory to the facelift-producing acceleration. Furthermore, you’ll look (and feel) so cool as you take every corner as if it were your last.

We can’t talk about Furka Pass without mentioning the Aston martin DB5. Featured in Goldfinger when James Bond found himself pitted against the Ford Mustang, the exhilarating car chase scene left us wanting to experience our very own 007 mission. Furka Pass is definitely the place.

Black Forest in an Audi R8

Next on the list is the Black Forest in Germany. A trip to this mystical destination is an adventure, to say the least.  There are some great skiing resorts and it’s a wonderful place to enjoy a hike or a mountain bike ride, but the best way is to experience the ancient Forest on four wheels. Cruising through the landscape next to glacial lakes and making the mountainous descent to the village of Todtmoos are two definite highlights.

Naturally, this experience should really be enjoyed in a German car. While there are several rental options you wouldn’t regret—such as a BMW, Mercedes or Porsche—we think hiring the Audi R8 is the most exciting option and it fits so well. The R8 has everything you want for the Black Forest, such as staggering performance and outstanding handling. The R8 also provides a level of comfort and everyday usability that serves to only heighten your driving experience.

Alps Lake Como With an Aston Martin V8 Vantage

Coming in at number four is another driving experience in Italy; this time to Lake Como. A stunning sight not too far from Milan in the north of Italy, the lake is rather long and spans 50km (around 31 miles). This experience can also take you through the Swiss Alps, but what makes it out of this world is the Loop of the Lake. The solitude is something to relish, giving you the opportunity to feel at one with your car.

What better way to cut through the silence than with one of the finest sounding automobiles known to man, the Aston Martin V8 Vantage? You won’t be able to resist revving the V8 engine, especially when you drop the top. You’ll truly enjoy riding around in one of the most stylish cars in one of the most stylish countries. Plus, Aston Martin has a strong race heritage, so you won’t be out of place testing your skills around the beautiful bends.

Scotland

Scotland in a Porsche 911 GT3

Our final choice is bonny Scotland and it’s easy to see why such a beautiful and historical country made it into our top five. One moment you may be enjoying ancient ruins, the next you could be weaving in and out of winding country lanes and then onto a beautiful coastal road. The diverse scenery really makes this a unique supercar opportunity, but try not to hog the road while you admire it.

Picking a car for this elegant adventure is no easy task. Though an Aston Martin certainly matches the backdrop for beauty and elegance, the Porsche 911 GT3 features so many racing capabilities that are packed onto a road car—not to mention the steering has the right amount of sensitivity for the course-like roads. You may not be able to push the 911 to its full potential away from the track, but Scotland offers a splendid canvas to turn your experience into a masterpiece.
