Sep 1, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich If you fancy yourself a hardcore science-fiction fan and have George Takei's Twitter account as your homepage, you're going to love MB&F's MusicMachine 2 (MM2), which was made by Reuge. Taking on the shape of a spacecraft, the fancy Swiss music box plays songs from Star Wars, Star Trek, and even the The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. If this sounds familiar, you may remember reading about Reuge's Musical Starship last year, which took on a much different shape. ... Read More |
Aug 22, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich If you weren't among the lucky guests at last night's pre-Emmy party put on by Audi at Cecconi's in West Hollywood, you missed out on a lot. Aug 11, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich Robin Williams has meant so much to so many people and we're absolutely gutted by the loss. The news of his death has rolled across the world rapidly, popping up on every news outlet and text message, and it's one that no one was prepared for. The 63-year-old lifted us up and made us all lighter the more we laughed, and the thought that he was weighed down with his own sadness breaks our hearts. From granting our wishes and encouraging the poet within us to taking us through the afterlife and being the best fake British nanny ever, Williams did everything with the same childlike glee that he brought to Hook. He was insane in the best of ways and he'll be missed. ... Read More |
Jul 24, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich The first official trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey finally hit the Internet today after premiering on Today, and the world was never the same. The trailer opens with mousy Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) preparing herself to meet the sexually dominant Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) for the first time and if knee grabbing and longing looks are your thing, this film clip has it all. ... Jul 18, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich There's a scene in 20,000 Days on Earth in which Nick Cave chauffeurs Kylie Minogue around Brighton in a black 1980s Jaguar XJ as she reflects back on having first met him. The front passenger seat is left open for us, the audience, as an invitation into a music documentary that's not quite real. In fact, everything you see has been constructed and the car you're in is more like a dream. Though the ambitious film is artistically pieced together and wrapped in fiction by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard—and co-written by Cave himself—it's actually the most beautifully honest reflection of art's transformative power you may ever see. ... Jul 17, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich It seems like the newest trend is for hugely anticipated film and television programs to offer fans a chance to win an on-camera role by donating to a good cause—either to fund the project itself or to raise money for charity. Even author George R.R. Martin got into it when he offered Game of Thrones fans the opportunity to win a spot in his upcoming A Song of Ice and Fire novel by donating to The Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary in New Mexico. And now, ladies and gentleman, you have the chance to be cast in the highly anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII! ... Read More |
Jul 1, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich Artist Eric Joyner combines two of our favorite things in the world: donuts and robots. His art depicts an alternative outcome of World War II, one in which those little tin toy robots exported from Japan from the 1940s to the 1960s live out their lives among us. ... Read More |
Jun 2, 2014 | Contributor: Vicki Arkoff | 1 Comment Sweet-faced Colin Hanks stars in his toughest role yet in Fargo, the original FX adaptation of the Academy Award-winning feature film. Rather than attempt a remake, writer Noah Hawley reinvents Fargo with an all-new crime story featuring a new case and new characters — all entrenched in the trademark humor, murder and “Minnesota nice” that made the film an enduring classic. Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton stars as Lorne Malvo, a rootless, manipulative man who meets and forever changes the life of small town insurance salesman Lester Nygaard, played by BAFTA winner Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit). ... May 30, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich | 1 Comment The highly anticipated Maleficent had its big red carpet premier last night at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood and is finally released today! Telling the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent explores the untold history of its classic villain and reveals the betrayal that turned her heart into stone. The vengeful multifaceted villain is one of Disney's biggest successes, oftentimes overshadowing the beloved princesses that always win in the end, and it's about time Disney told her side of the tale. ... May 27, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich If you're looking for a cool way to celebrate the upcoming Star Wars sequels, allow us to present the Aero-X hover bike — well, you'll have to wait until 2017 to actually get one, but stop being picky. Engineering company Aerofex has come up with this innovative and futuristic bike (which was first debuted back in 2007 as a prototype) that will apparently be able to fly up to 10 feet off the ground at speeds of 45mph. You better start planning those Star Wars-themed desert races now. ... Read More |
May 27, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich People in Los Angeles are pretty familiar with the registered cultural monument at 1120 Westchester Place that's affectionately dubbed the "Murder House" — you know, the spooky mansion that has popped up in a number of movies and television shows, like the first season of American Horror Story. The estate, which has been everything from a private home and chapel to a Hollywood film set, is officially looking for a new owner at only $5 million. ... Read More |
May 14, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich Scott Thomas Interior Design has been giving Billy Wilder's (Some Like It Hot) former historic home a complete makeover, transofrming it into the "Hollywood Glam Deco" haven it deserves to be. The residence was designed specifically for the screenwriter by famed African-American, Los Angeles-based architect Paul R. Williams in 1929 (who also built homes for the likes of Frank Sinatra, Lucille Ball and Lon Chaney). ... Read More |
May 13, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich Taxi drivers already hate Uber for taking their clientele, offering people more personalized and classy ride experiences, and now they're planning on doing the same in the sky for lucky rich kids heading to the Cannes Film Festival this week. Available for a limited time from May 12 to May 18, UberJET was created in partnership with GOODWILL Private Jets and allows you to pull up the app and hop on a private jet to Cannes. ... Read More |
May 9, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich It seems like a new craft cocktail bar opens every weekend, with mixologists scrambling to create the next coolest drink. As much as we love innovation, sometimes you really can't beat the tried and true mixed drinks that have been around forever. Besides, most of the new guys are just modern variations of what our grandparents drank with breakfast. ... Read More |
May 7, 2014 | Contributor: Mila Pantovich | 1 Comment Ever since the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey was announced, fans have been losing their minds over just how sexy the movie will be (newsflash, they want it really sexy). Last year producer Dana Brunetti voiced his interest in making two versions of the movie, one R-rated and one NC-17 — though now it seems that the film will be sticking with R. The buzz and controversy around the highly anticipated bondage flick made us think back on past mainstream titles that were almost too sexy for an R rating — and some that definitely were. ...
