Glam Meets Retro-Chic: Welcome to The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood

All photos courtesy of The Godfrey Hotel Hollywood

Hollywood is having a moment. One of Los Angeles’ most iconic neighborhoods has seen a slew of new boutique hotel openings, and with the city’s sights set on the 2028 Summer Olympics, more are sure to follow. But, for now, if a stunning rooftop, pool deck and cocktail bar combo (at 12,000 square feet, it’s Hollywood’s largest) appeals - not to mention glam guestrooms and eco-friendly initiatives - then welcome to The Godfrey.

The Vibe

The first California outpost from the Chicago-based hospitality brand is located one block below Sunset Boulevard, making it a great jumping-off point for exploring the city or reservations at new white-hot haunts like Mother Wolf and Desert 5 Spot, both walking distance around the corner. Much like its sister properties in Chicago, Boston and Tampa, The Godfrey Hollywood is all sophisticated architecture, sleek restaurant concepts, and a high-touch guest experience (pet pups included) from check-in to check-out.

From the 'I Love You' sculpture to a seven-piece sculpture spelling out 'Godfrey,' the hotel's art collection adds to the personalized travel experience – and make great photo opportunities. Eco-friendly initiatives are championed here, too, for sustainably-minded travelers – there's a bike valet and bike parking for locals and electric vehicle charging stations for out-of-town guests. In addition, hotel operations get a green boost with rooftop solar panels and energy-efficient smart thermostats.

The Rooms

Hollywood's glittering past and present gets a retro-chic aesthetic nod across the 220-room, seven-story property thanks to high touch luxe materials (think tufted velvet headboards and brass finish fixtures) and a smoky green and blush pink color palette. With their retro-style black-and-white vintage tilework and rain showers, bathrooms are pretty opulent affairs too. Hollywood rooms face the city's famous sign while several second-floor courtyard patio guestrooms feature Juliette balconies that open to a private space with lush foliage and lounge furniture - somewhere lovely to sit in your robe with a morning coffee courtesy of the in-room Illy espresso machine.

The Restaurants

Head to rooftop hangout I|O for postcard-perfect sunsets where near-panoramic views sweep across Hollywood, Century City, and Downtown LA skylines. Take your pick from two bars: the 25-seat option on the west side, which features cozy seating areas and fit pits, is perfect for pre-dinner cocktails and appetizers (light bites like poke bowls and sushi rolls grace the menu) or weekend nightcap before last orders at 2 am. Downstairs, ALK is the hotel's chef-driven gastropub-meets-steakhouse concept (although there are plant-based and vegan options too) is open for breakfast, lunch dinner and weekend brunch. A small selection of room service menus are also offered throughout the day until 10 pm.

What’s Happening

Summer programming includes a new Taco Tuesday on the rootop and weekend pool party with live music, food, and drink specials, plus the hotel's ongoing and (uber-popular) happy hour, which runs Monday through Thursday from 4 to 6 pm. Themed brunches at ALK include a Drag Brunch on Sundays. Overnight and staycation packages include Hollywoof! (think everything from comped bowls and dog chaise lounge beds, to luxury goodies The Boxdog Box, among other pet perks) and the Stay, Breakfast and Valet, which includes breakfast for two at ALK.
