In a city defined by constant reinvention, Mayfair remains a neighbourhood synonymous with discretion, heritage and refinement. It is here, on the historic Queen Street, that The Six has opened its doors — a new beauty and wellness destination housed in a six-storey, Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse. The space, meticulously restored and reimagined by the globally acclaimed Argent Design, is as much a sanctuary of artistry and design as it is a salon.
Founded by internationally renowned hairstylist Marcos Verissimo, The Six embodies a multisensory approach to beauty and grooming. From the soothing textures beneath one’s fingertips to the curated scents that infuse the air, every element of the experience has been considered to create an atmosphere that is deeply immersive. As Verissimo explains: “The Six client isn’t buying a product, they’re buying an experience. The textures, the light, the smell — everything that hits your senses is designed to make your time at The Six deeply memorable.”
A Masterclass in Design by Argent
The Six is the latest project from Argent Design, the internationally celebrated interior and architecture studio founded in 1997 by Nicola Fontanella, now led alongside partner Jack Bridges. Argent is known for its extraordinary portfolio spanning prime residential developments, luxury hospitality, aviation, marine, and retail. With offices in London, Miami, Melbourne and Monaco, and projects across New York, St. Tropez, Beijing, Dubai and Hong Kong, Argent has cultivated a reputation for crafting interiors that are both exquisite and commercially astute.
Fontanella’s hallmark is her ability to fuse heritage with contemporary design, and at The Six, this talent is on full display. The Georgian townhouse — dating back to the 1770s — has been restored to its original grandeur. Original panelling, cornices and proportions have been preserved and enhanced, with contemporary interventions that feel seamless rather than imposed. As Fontanella notes: “Our goal was to create an exquisite design that is practical, with every finish, material and detail chosen to create a harmonious environment — one that respects the heritage of the building and blends it with contemporary design.”
A Journey Through Six Floors
Each of the townhouse’s six floors offers its own unique environment. Guests are welcomed in a reception where the restored panelling is complemented by beaded detailing reminiscent of pearls, a green Calacatta Vere marble reception desk, and backlit shelving that provides warmth and acoustic comfort.
On the ground floor, a men’s grooming space exudes masculine sophistication with stitched leather panelling, oak flooring, mirrored timber ceilings and bespoke Takara Belmont barber chairs, enriched by stately Portoro marble.
Ascending through the building, the mid-floor styling area is drenched in natural light from elegant French windows. Walnut cabinetry and bespoke emerald resin details blend 18th-century cornice work with modern craftsmanship. Practical features — built-in charging stations and wide pull-out drawers — underscore Argent’s reputation for marrying beauty with function.
The second floor, devoted to hair washing and relaxation, is layered with ecru and linen finishes, travertine accents, and fabric privacy screens. Higher still, treatment rooms on the third and fourth floors invite calm introspection with bespoke wall finishes, Serpeggiante marble basins, and a curation of artworks that transform the space into a gallery of wellness. Finally, the top floor opens onto a verdant terrace overlooking Mayfair’s rooftops, complete with a vertical green wall and elegant cabinetry — a hidden retreat for intimate gatherings.
Even the cloakroom has been curated with artistry, featuring Fusion Black marble and woven wallpaper that echo details elsewhere in the building. This attention to detail is emblematic of Argent’s design philosophy: interiors that are not only visually compelling but also emotionally resonant.
The Experience: Balayage and a Haircut
Against this architectural backdrop, my personal experience at The Six felt elevated far beyond the ordinary. My balayage was entrusted to Ale Paiva, whose approach was both intuitive and masterful. He listened attentively before painting on the colour with painstaking precision. The result was a sun-kissed radiance that looked effortlessly natural, luminous and refined rather than overly contrived. It was a modern interpretation of highlights, tailored exquisitely to my complexion and style.
The haircut was executed with equal finesse by Aytac Ozbay. Each snip was carefully considered, reshaping my hair to restore vitality and elegance. Ozbay approached the cut with the composure of an artist, enhancing natural movement while ensuring the style framed my face beautifully. The final effect was both flattering and timeless — a haircut that felt as though it belonged uniquely to me. What might elsewhere have been routine became, in this context, a transformative experience.
More Than a Salon
What sets The Six apart is its ability to harmonise technical artistry with an immersive environment. Beyond hair and wellness, the space also functions as a platform for cultural expression, with rotating exhibitions of art by local and international talent. Even the culinary offering is a talking point — the in-house kitchen is so exceptional that clients often order food from it even when they are not enjoying a treatment. It is this kind of thoughtful, holistic approach that makes The Six not just a salon, but a destination.
For Fontanella and Argent Design, The Six represents the epitome of their philosophy: timeless interiors that respect heritage while embracing contemporary elegance. For Verissimo, it is a canvas upon which artistry and self-care converge. And for the client, it is a rare opportunity to step away from the bustle of Mayfair and emerge renewed, radiant, and poised.
As I left No. 6 Queen Street, my glossy hair catching the late afternoon light, the experience confirmed The Six as a polished addition to Mayfair’s beauty landscape — a destination where design, wellness and grooming are seamlessly aligned.
