Shakespeare's Globe

While Shakespeare's Globe may not sit in the exact location of the historical Globe Theatre, it's only yards from its original site, and continues to be a gathering place for culture and entertainment as it was in Shakespeare's day. Opened in 1997 by Her Majesty the Queen, The Globe's reconstruction was originally initiated by American actor Sam Wananmaker in 1949.

Today the theater holds plays (based on Shakespeare's many works), has an educational program that includes a library, courses and playground, and has a historical exhibit to showcase the life and history of its namesake playwright.
