There is no place in the world like New England for the fall season. When the leaves change to fiery shades of yellow, orange and red, and the temperature starts to cool, the region becomes an autumn dream, especially if you escape to the countryside. The small town of Stowe in Vermont is a great choice for a day of foliage chasing while still being surrounded by amazing restaurants, luxury hotels and outdoor activities.

An outdoor paradise, Stowe is a hub for travelers that like to keep active. A favorite pastime among locals is biking the Stowe Recreation Path which was completed in 1989 and runs 5.3 miles from Stowe Village through bridges, meadows, bridges and the forest. Along the path is an array of stops, from boutiques, shops restaurants, lodges and even a corn maze. There are also a network of trails available for beginner, intermediate or advanced riders to explore. Head to Cady Hill Forest (a.k.a. “Town Loop” to the locals) and connect to trails that lead to Trapps, Pipeline and Adams camp.

Another great fall ride is Route 100. This road goes through the mountains and villages, with stops like Cold Hollow Cider Mill and famous Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. If you’d rather go on a hike, there are several trails on Mount Mansfield. Smugglers’ Notch State Park is great for both hikers and mountain bikers, with public and private trails.
