During celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe’s last season on her reality TV show, she pleaded with her husband to purchase a second home in New York (the first being in LA). The oversized-sunglass-wearing blonde was tired of staying in hotel penthouse suites and wanted a homier atmosphere for her many trips to the city. If you’re like Zoe and have stayed in your share of luxury properties, you may want to consider booking a private condo instead.
The one-bedroom Mercedes House Suite 1545 (no connection to the luxury car brand) located in Midtown can be rented out weekly and provides a true city-living feel. With floor-to-ceiling windows, the contemporary residence attracts plenty of natural light and is decorated with sleek black and white furnishings and artwork. Four silver bar stools sit against the white granite countertops which are neatly matched with high-end stainless steel appliances in the open plan kitchen.
Inside the bedroom, the king-size bed rests next to additional floor-to-ceiling windows, providing beautiful views of the river and the city skyline. Minimal décor gives the bathroom a sleek look and oversized mirrors are complemented by subway tiles.
As part of the reservation, guests also have access to the building's amenities (for a $25 a day fee) such as an Olympic-size swimming pool, golf simulator, yoga studio, state-of-the-art gym, boxing ring, two outdoor pools, and both an indoor basketball court and bocce ball court. A dedicated concierge is also on hand to assist in any other services such as airport transfers.
Mercedes House Suite 1545 is available to host four guests maximum, and rates range between $550 to $850 per night with a minimum seven-night stay required.
