The Story Behind The Great Gatsby Film Adaptations: Then and Now

Apr 24, 2013  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich

"They were careless people, Tom and Daisy — they smashed up things and creatures and retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness…"

F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby is possibly America's finest literary offering, chronicling the "Jazz Age" in a way that's both indicting and glamorous. Fitzgerald presents the 1920's through a soaring economy with bootleggers making a killing from prohibition and consumers creating an underground world of excess. Considering this was after WWI, it should be no surprise that the public overcompensated, turning their shock and fear to extravagant showmanship.... Read More

Vegas Mogul Puts Elbow Through Picasso's Le Reve & Sells it for Record Sum

Apr 3, 2013  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich

Picasso is one of the world's most revered artists so it's not really a surprise that his Le R?ve has been sold to billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen for $155 million, the highest price a US collector has ever paid for a piece of art, making it the priciest Picasso ever sold. What is surprising — at least to me — is that Le Reve (The Dream) was sold for this crazy price after the seller, hotelier Steve Wynn, accidentally put his elbow through it. How does someone accidentally jab his elbow through a Picasso, causing a six-inch tear in the canvas? Guess you'll have to form your own opinion, but I'm going to assume alcohol was involved....
