You have to either be a celebrity, work at Vogue or become one of the world’s top bloggers before you can even think about getting an invite to sit front row at Fashion Week—and even then it’s likely Anna Wintour will snub you if she doesn’t like your shoes.

O Captain! My Captain! Robin Williams Will Be Missed

Aug 11, 2014  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich

Robin Williams has meant so much to so many people and we're absolutely gutted by the loss. The news of his death has rolled across the world rapidly, popping up on every news outlet and text message, and it's one that no one was prepared for. The 63-year-old lifted us up and made us all lighter the more we laughed, and the thought that he was weighed down with his own sadness breaks our hearts. From granting our wishes and encouraging the poet within us to taking us through the afterlife and being the best fake British nanny ever, Williams did everything with the same childlike glee that he brought to Hook. He was insane in the best of ways and he'll be missed.

Santa Cruz Shakespeare Festival Rises From the Ashes & Becomes a Model of Independent Festivals

Jul 30, 2014  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich  |  1 Comment

Whether you consider yourself a fan or not, you've probably quoted a William Shakespeare play without realizing it—especially if you have ever been tongue-tied, if your car keys vanished into thin air, if you have seen better days, or if you have had too much of a good thing. Shakespeare's permanence in the English language is probably the easiest way to see the full effect his words have on how we express ourselves and the way we relate to one another.

Annie Leibovitz's Massive Career Consolidated in $2,500 476-Page Book

Jul 25, 2014  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich

With a career that's lasted over 40 years, everyone knows Annie Leibovitz by now. The iconic artist was the chief photographer for Rolling Stone, the first contributing photographer for Vanity Fair after its revival, and has been behind some of the most famous advertising campaigns. Many may try and copy her, but her portraiture style is instantly recognizable as something inherently her own. With so much work in her catalog, it must have been quite the feat to collect her photos in a SUMO-sized book for Taschen, but she did it and the art world rejoices. [Warning: One of the following pictures is NSFW]

20,000 Days on Earth Investigates Nick Cave's Psyche & Boldly Redefines the Music Documentary Genre

Jul 18, 2014  |   Contributor: Mila Pantovich

There's a scene in 20,000 Days on Earth in which Nick Cave chauffeurs Kylie Minogue around Brighton in a black 1980s Jaguar XJ as she reflects back on having first met him. The front passenger seat is left open for us, the audience, as an invitation into a music documentary that's not quite real. In fact, everything you see has been constructed and the car you're in is more like a dream. Though the ambitious film is artistically pieced together and wrapped in fiction by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard—and co-written by Cave himself—it's actually the most beautifully honest reflection of art's transformative power you may ever see.
