London Children’s Ballet Presents: The Secret Garden at London’s Peacock Theatre

ASH

From Thursday 4 -Sunday 7 July 2024, London Children’s Ballet presents the much-loved children’s classic, The Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, first published in 1911. With a cast of 50 talented young dancers aged 9 – 16, this classic children's story will be brought to the stage after months of intensive rehearsals.

LCB is a charity founded by Lucille Briance in 1994 that aims to inspire children from all backgrounds through dance, planting the seed of a long lasting passion that will enrich their lives. LCB’s Acting Artistic Director Jenna Lee specialises in collaborations and innovative choreographic pieces. She trained classically at The Royal Ballet School and English National Ballet School before dancing as a Soloist with English National Ballet for 12 years. Artistic Director, Ruth Brill (currently on maternity leave), brings a wealth of experience from her 25 years at the English National Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet as a dancer and choreographer. Each year, a favourite children’s story is adapted with an original scenario full of humour, drama and excitement to engage a family audience. LCB then commissions an emerging composer to write a ‘full-evening’ narrative score and a choreographer (Gavin McCaig, who trained at the Dance School of Scotland and English National Ballet School before joining Northern Ballet) to set the ballet, also working with up-and-coming costume and set designers. LCB stages this stunning new ballet performed over a week-long run to sell-out audiences in the West End’s Peacock Theatre.

The LCB Company is comprised of highly talented young girl dancers aged 9-14 (and boys 9-16). Up to 50 children join the company, through annual competitive auditions of over 600 applicants, held each autumn. The following four-month rehearsal and performance experience is free of charge, which not only makes LCB unique but also means there is no barrier to talent – LCB dancers come from every economic, social, and ethnic background, united by their passion for ballet. LCB also runs thriving programmes in the community throughout the year, touching the lives of over 3,000 disadvantaged children and elderly people with workshops and inspirational performances.
