OPI Horses Around in New Video Campaign

The new advertising tactic by luxury beauty brand OPI is witty, smart, and just plain fun. The high-end nail polish company just released its very first international short film this week, and it has makeup, animal, and dance enthusiasts alike tapping their feet.

With a leading lady this statuesque, it?s safe to say this film demands attention. Instinct of Color stars Lady in Black, a talented Thoroughbred horse named after OPI?s classic lacquer (the shade is known as Black Onyx in North America.) The black beauty competes in a dance-off against four unique women who specialize in different expressive styles and represent one of four nail lacquers. The video?s cute factor comes in when Lady in Black?s pedicure alters to match the shades that the dancers represent. The four polishes in question include ?Pink-ing of You,? ?Red My Fortune Cookie,? ?Need Sunglasses?? and ?No Room for the Blues.?

The horse, trained by Mario Luraschi, performs impressive choreography set to ?Down the Road? by French band C2C. The brand?s executive VP and artistic director explains that Lady in Black?s dance moves, while almost surreal, are for the most part authentic. ?With a trained Thoroughbred who could replicate the dancers? moves with very little digital enhancement, we were able to capture the unique, energetic and creative culture that epitomizes the OPI brand,? said Suzi Weiss-Fischmann.
