Jewelry designer May Al Qassar received her Communication Design Degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York before creating her first custom pieces of jewelry for family and friends. Soon, the requests for her beautiful work increased and May began drawing more inspiration from prints, painting, and photography.
“In my eyes, the simpler the jewelry design the more personal it becomes,” May said, “Because beauty does not lay in the piece itself but gains it from the person it adorns. And the more one wears it the more beautiful it becomes.” Much of May’s work reflects her Middle Eastern heritage, with gorgeous designs that seemingly mirror Arabic letter shapes and forms, accented by delicate chains or inlaid gems.
May’s collections are crafted from various types of gold metals, including Rose gold, which imbues warmth against the skin of any who wear her pieces. Her Double Ring Collection feature a series of jewelry with space to be worn on two fingers and include her signature Arabic-inspired designs. The bracelets from her 2012 Valentines Collection are hand crafted from Rose gold and carry delicate heart-shaped precious stones ($534 USD) and calligraphy that translates into the American word for “Love.”
