While there are several housing options for those who want to live close enough to New York to be part of the action, but far enough away to have land and privacy, there aren’t any quite like Greystone on Hudson. Spanning 100 acres and sitting just 13 miles from Manhattan, this luxury community in Westchester County offers 21 customizable estates that range in price between $5 and $25 million. Plus, looking like it came straight out of a Jane Austen novel, Greystone sits on the historic Millionaires Row, which was once home to the Rockefellers, Morgans, Astors, Goulds and Lehamns.

Getting its name from an Italian mansion that once stood where the community is now, Greystone on Hudson promises a particular lifestyle that has already proven appealing to locals and international homeowners. Andy Todd, the developer of Greystone Mansion Group, thinks that a major part of its popularity is the location. Each of the two- to five-acre lots offer a different view, from a 70-acre county park to the Hudson River, thanks to its elevation and hillside placement. Some lots even own a ravine, offering a more rustic and woodsy vibe. “You don’t feel like you’re 13 miles from Manhattan, you feel like you’re somewhere out in Colorado,” Todd says.

“Outdoors is a way of life and Greystone is built for that,” adds Todd, who expects all 21 homes to sell within the next 3-4 years. Considering 8 Carriage Trail sold for $9M after being on the market for just nine days, we won’t be surprised at all if his prediction turns out to be accurate.

Because each house is totally customizable (including the exterior design), your options for amenities are pretty endless, including the addition of theaters, pizza kitchens, indoor/outdoor pools, tennis courts, wine cellars, bowling alleys, indoor basketball courts and rock climbing walls. Though you decide how you want your house to look, the community has a very traditional English feel to it, with flickering gas lanterns at the main entrance and old stone walls instead of fences.

If you work in the city, living here will probably give you a shorter commute than living in Manhattan, even though it is technically further away. The reason for this is because Greystone can be easily reached via I-87, which avoids tunnel and bridge traffic. It is also only a few miles from two marinas, an airport, some of the world’s best private schools and many prestigious country clubs.

The development currently has 6 Carriage Trail on the market for $12.9M through Douglas Elliman. The eight-bedroom, 17,942-square-foot estate sits on 2.8 acres and offers views of the Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge and the Palisades Hills.
