Moulin Rouge Brings Parisian Pop to the Pantages

Pantages

Even before the musical Moulin Rouge begins, now playing at the Pantages through November 16, the show sweeps you into the glittery and chaotic glamour of Paris at the turn of the 20th century, re-imagined in neon, pop-anthem style.

This version of the 2001 movie is big, daring, and immersive. If you want to be swept off your feet, this production delivers.

Pantages

At the heart of the spectacle is a romantic story that the leads give weight. The chemistry between the lovers feels earned, and the supporting characters inject humor and stakes, all amidst a variety of pop and classic songs.

In Paris, the legendary cabaret Moulin Rouge is teetering on the brink. The charismatic impresario, Zidler (Robert Petkoff), must pay off his debts if his beloved club is to survive. Enter Christian (Jay Armstrong Johnson), a young, idealistic writer who arrives in Paris with dreams of art and freedom. He encounters Satine (Arianna Rosario), the star “diamond” of the Moulin, and instantly falls in love. Satine, however, is already promised to the Duke (Andrew Brewer), a wealthy patron whose money could save the club. Christian and Satine’s love blossoms in clandestine fashion, even as the Duke’s power and the Moulin’s financial fate loom. Loyalties are tested, dreams are wagered, and, through music and dance and spark and glamour, we watch how far love, freedom, and truth will carry a heart in a world built on spectacle.

Pantages

For those expecting a mirror of the film version, this is wilder, louder, and more theatrical than cinematic. The show presents itself not just as a narrative, but as an experience.

If you’re in the mood for an evening that sparkles, pulses, and makes you feel alive, Moulin Rouge is the ticket to buy.
