Georgia State Capitol

The Georgia General Assembly is in session beginning the second Monday in January and continues for 40 working days. During this time the Capitol is busy with activity. Visitors can watch the proceedings from the public gallery where seats are available on a first come-first serve basis.Tours begin at the Capitol tour desk (located at the Washington Street entrance) and consist of a brief overview of Capitol history and the lawmaking process, a visit to the public gallery of the House of Representatives or Senate, and conclude with a self-guided visit of the Georgia Capitol Museum.
The Georgia Capitol Museum seeks to preserve and interpret the history of the Georgia State Capitol building itself as well as the events that have taken place within its walls. To carry out this purpose, the Museum collects, maintains, and exhibits significant artifacts, including historic flags and works of art, within the State Capitol. Visitors are also encouraged to visit the 'Hall of Valor,' which houses Georgia's priceless collection of historic flags.
