A River Cruise for the Sake of Whisky

If there was ever a river cruise that was calling my name, European Waterways’ Whisky Trail excursion would be it. Taking place along Caledonian Canal aboard the Scottish Highlander, the six-night trip will make stops at three historic distilleries in Scotland.

The eight-passenger vessel will travel between Fort William and Inverness, passing and visiting many of the country’s famous castles, historic sites and scenic landscapes. Plus you’ll cross the infamous Loch Ness where you may spot “Nessie” wading through the water. The Scottish Highlander will make stops at the Benromach Distillery near Forres, Glen Ord distillery and Dalwhinnie distillery for private tasting and special activities. The latter includes a tour and pairings with chocolates (yes!).

While aboard the ship, guests will also get to try a variety of special whiskies and Scottish fare such as line-caught wild salmon, fresh scallops and a locally-sourced saddle of venison. Although most rates are for charter experiences only starting at $31,500 for eight guests, the June 5 and October 2, 2016 trips can be selected for individual bookings. Rates begin at $4,090 per person, based on double occupancy for those two dates.
