The Western Hemisphere's First Superyacht Marina adds Nightlife to the Mix

Did you know that the United States didn't have a superyacht marina until recently? The Western Hemisphere’s first deep water superyacht marina opened in Miami this past January and is called Island Gardens Deep Harbour, situated on Watson Island. The Deep Harbour’s 5,000 linear feet of slips have been designed specifically to accommodate a wide array of vessels, but they’re intentionally targeting megayachts reaching 500-feet-plus in length. There is also accommodation for smaller powerboats and tenders servicing said yachts. The marina is host to a variety of amenities, including yacht charter services, international aircraft facilities and United States Customs capabilities.

Ever wonder what a $6.2-million-dollar yacht sinking looks like? Now you don’t have to ponder, because you have the above video to watch (while cringing, of course). The superyacht in question was off the coast of Mykonos when it hit a barrier reef late last week in the wee hours of the morning. Due to the strike, the vessel (which is called Aloha) started taking on water and the four people onboard had to be rescued by a patrol boat. Thankfully, no one was hurt—unless you count their hearts fracturing from the loss.
