Tokyo Shoppers Go Clothing-Light For Chance To Win More

If you've never watched Japanese gameshows then the sudden culture shift from Tokyo's normally demure and tame expression to the wild and practically bare frenzy the "semi-naked party" kicked up this weekend probably came as a total shock. Stripping down for a chance to build up an impressive wardrobe, the event was just another reminder that in Tokyo, a lot more goes on under the surface than you might think.

Tokyo shoppers stripped down to the bare essentials Saturday hoping to win free clothing as part of a promotional giveaway.

The “semi-naked party” was hosted by Barcelona, Spain-based retailer Desigual, which handed out free clothes to around a hundred customers dressed in swimsuits and underwear at its flagship shop in Tokyo.

Desigual, founded in 1984 and famous for its colorful patchwork designs, has staged similar events in Barcelona, Paris, New York and other fashion capitals ahead of major sales campaigns, but never before in Asia.
