5 Jewellery Trends for 2012

The jewellery trends of 2011 showcased big, bold and chunky pieces that were made to be noticeable and daring. In 2012, the trends are all about the classic pieces for spring as well as natural pieces for the fall collection. This year it’s all about sustainable, recycled and raw pieces that range from classic to exotic. Some trends that began in 2011 will also carry over to 2012, large rings and the fun mix of contemporary and vintage is still as hot as ever. The jewellery industry will also bring us plenty of bright and unexpected colours, as well as funky gemstones, geodes and crystals. Here are some of the top jewellery trends of 2012:

Choker Necklaces

This year you must have a choker necklace in your jewellery box if you want to be trendy. The draw of these necklaces is to accentuate the shoulder lines, and so they should be worn with an open neck, strapless, v-neck or deep round neck shirts and dresses. For ladies with a longer neck, it is recommended that you choose a bolder piece that sits higher on the neck, and ladies with a shorter neck should choose pieces that are daintier and that sit below the neckline. Materials used will vary from large and bold crystals to delicate and antique-looking metals.

The Colour Blue

The colour blue makes its popular debut in 2012 jewellery collections. Turquoise tones, navy, aqua, azure and just about any shade of blue will be stylish this year. This is good news because there is a blue out there to suit every woman, and it’s also a colour that can either match or contrast well with other colours.

Floral Jewellery

This year, you will see a lot of jewellery pieces and accessories that are inspired by flowers. Petals, buds and full floral arrangements will be seen all over rings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches and any other piece of jewellery you can think of; flowers are great for giving your outfit a fun, flirty and soft look for when springtime comes around. There is no shortage of material choice either, as your floral pieces this year can be made from gems or just about any recycled material.

Hair Jewellery

2012 fashion runways have seen the comeback of hair jewellery. From brooches to tiaras and hairpins to barrettes, hair fashion is returning with a bang. This bridal type fashion has made its way into numerous rep carpet numbers this year, and is slowly catching on at the street level. It doesn’t matter whether you are using small flower brooches and hairpins or large funky head bands, as long as you are putting something in your hair this year (within reason), you’re in fashion.

Crosses

One more 2012 trend worth mentioning is the return of the crosses. When it comes to sporting a cross around your neck, there are no hard and fast rules, as they can be small, large, bold, colourful, simple, or dainty. Crosses can be worn on their own as a long necklace with a bold pendant, or they can be paired with layers of other necklaces. No matter how you prefer to wear yours, there are endless cross designs to choose from this year.

So be bold and embrace these trends before anyone else, for a new year of fun, flirty fashion and jewellery accessories in 2012.
