La Quinta Resort to Build 35-Ton Sand Sculpture in Honor of Big Horn Sheep

The area just outside La Quinta Resort & Club’s main lobby will soon welcome a dramatic new sand masterpiece, designed to depict some of the area’s most beloved and endangered wildlife. On February 14, construction will begin on the striking sand sculpture of a family of Peninsular Big Horn sheep, similar to those native to the desert immediately surrounding the resort, and which can sometimes be seen on the resort’s golf courses. The five-foot by 15-foot by eight-foot sand creation will take four days to craft and will be built by Sandguys, the stars of Travel Channel’s Sandmasters television show.
