Sadly, Alexander McQueen’s exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art ‘Savage Beauty’ closed on August 7, 2011.

The Met in New York City says Alexander McQueen’s exhibit, which showcased costumes and shoes by the late designer Alexander McQueen, was among its top 10 most-visited exhibits. It attracted over 661,509 visitors to the museum's Costume Institute according to Huff Post Style which makes it one of the Met's ten most popular exhibitions in 141 years.

Alexander McQueen is a true fashion legend and has earned many accolades during the last decade of his career which ended tragically with his death in 2010.

Lee Alexander McQueen was born in London on March 17, 1969. His career was short-lived but what an outstanding career it was. He became one the most respected fashion designers in the world and still reigns supreme. Even today, the Fashion House he built designs for celebrities and royalty such as Lady GaGa and Kate Middleton. Kate Middlteon, now the Duchess of Cambridge, reached to McQueen’s fashion house for her wedding dress and footwear.

Alexander McQueen has designed everything from women/men’s ready-to-wear to haute couture collections, accessories (including shoes and handbags) to fragrances.

According to AlexanderMcQueen.com, 'Alexander McQueen shows are known for their emotional power and raw energy, as well as the romantic but determinedly contemporary nature of the collections. Integral to the McQueen culture is the juxtaposition between contrasting elements: fragility and strength, tradition and modernity, fluidity and severity. An openly emotional and even passionate viewpoint is realized with a profound respect and influence for the arts and crafts tradition. Alexander's collections combine an in-depth working knowledge of bespoke British tailoring, the fine workmanship of the French Haute Couture atelier and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing.'

His many accolades include: appointment to Chief Designer at the French Haute Couture House Givenchy in 1996; British Designer of the year in 1996 & 1997, 2001 & 2003, International Designer of the Year by The Council of Fashion Designer's of America (CFDA) in 2003; A Most Excellent Commander of The British Empire (CBE) by her Majesty the Queen in 2003; and GQ Menswear Designer of the Year in 2007.
