Vertu: Limited Edition Luxury Cell Phones - 'Big 3'

March 18, 2010   |   Contributor: James Rothaar

Luxury Cell Phones: A heated argument at a town hall meeting would not fire up if it were stated that all cell phones by Vertu are high-end models. Since none of the brand’s personal-communication devices sell for less than $5,000, it is an assertion that gets minimal argument.

All of these models are handmade limited editions. However, three models head the class due to having fewer units made than typical limited editions — which usually average in the low thousands.

Apple’s iPad Meets World

January 29, 2010   |   Contributor: James Rothaar

Personal Electronics: Does any company get more attention when it speaks than Apple? On Wednesday, the company showed off its iPad media tablet. The Wi-Fi powered iPad is a 9.7-inch touch device that resembles (and works like) a super-sized iPod Touch. Several industry analysts expect the market to takeoff in 2010.

Apple says it’s perfect for home and office use and will use Apple’s existing services available for the smaller Apple media player and iPhone. A new e-book storefront, iBooks, also will be added to the iPad.

Three additional models of the media tablet will include 3G wireless radios for mobile data access over cellular operators. Special pre-paid pricing plans from AT&T Wireless will be available initially in U.S., with international carrier agreements anticipated by midyear.

Turn Old Albums into New CDs with LP 2 CD

January 26, 2010   |   Contributor: James Rothaar

Electronics: While there have been many items featured with a higher price, this is one of those times where the luxury of the convenience is absolutely priceless. Ion Audio’s LP 2 CD player is one for the keepers of the old vinyl disk albums. Finally, there is a way to convert an entire library of old platters into new CDs; and it’s as easy (and fun) as giving a song your ears. Actually, that is all there is to it.

Play albums on the LP 2 CD and record one or more CD copies in the internal CD burner. It also can be connected to a computer and transfer the old vinyl to an MP3 or an iPod. Place an album on the turntable and insert a blank CD. Hit the record button as the album plays and the player LP 2 CD does the rest. It works on both Macs and PCs.

Converting albums to CDs is a breeze with LP 2 CD.

January 18, 2010   |   Contributor: Carly Zinderman

Luxury Electronics: While I like having a home sound system as much as the next person, I don’t like having to arrange furniture around speakers. But you don’t have to do that with the Aesthetic speaker collection from Jamo.

The cute new A 804 model wall-mounted speaker fits into any style décor and fits any space by fitting onto the wall. The Danish design with black leather and black high gloss finish is elegant enough for any space, without compromising sound quality.

Unplggd.com says, “We seriously doubt that people are finding it difficult to place subs these days since most are very small, but this is small enough to be called ‘cute’. Small enough to eat.”

The stylish speaker offers precision and clarity for music and film soundtracks, in a range normally reserved for larger speakers. The compact A 804 is a 3-way bassreflex measuring 700 x 160 x 100 / 27.6 x 6.3 x 3.9, making it small enough to be mounted and placed anywhere you need it go.
