Bollywood Music 2012 the Rise of the ?Musical? Phoenix!

So if ‘Chikni chameli’ and ‘Firebrigade mangwa do’ made people dance not only weddings but even on their theatre seats then ‘Paani da rang’ and ‘Yaarian’ also made people get lost in the soulful musical harmony. The year 2012 has certainly been a mixed bag of melodies in terms Bollywood music.

Bollywood music has risen from the ashes, and how! After an elongated spell in the 1980s and early 90s wherein singers made a living by imitating yesteryears’ legends and the melodies seemed like prototypes of each other, the newer entrants on the scene have infused a fresh new lease of life to Bollywood music. The year 2012 more than any other has been witness to this musical revolution.

While discussing the changing trends in latest Bollywood music, the first feature that stands out is the re-entry of item songs in movies. Item songs were initially the forte of actress Helen but now every leading Bollywood actress competes with the other to perform an item number in movies since they are sure to grab eyeballs and help in popularising the movie. Some item songs become so popular that many forget the name of the movie and the lead actress but can never forget who performed the item song. These groovy and peppy numbers are such a successful marketing gimmick that most people flock to theatres only for them. Some of the popular item numbers this year are Anarkali Disco Chali- Housefull 2, Dil Mera Muft Ka- Agent Vinod, Chikni Chameli- Agneepath, Pritam Pyare- Rowdy Rathore, Fevicol Se- Dabangg 2 to name a few.

In a bid to prove its versatility, latest Bollywood music is also about soulful melodies to keep you company during a breezy evening drive or when you are huddled up in a cosy blanket with a cup of warm tea on a chilly winter morning. There are renditions for every mood and every emotion. From Phir le aaya- Barfi to Paani da rang- Vicky Donor to Yaarian- Cocktail, these emotionally rich poignant numbers are more comforting than a chat with a best friend.

Another interesting and rather pleasantly surprising feature is the trend of revisiting popular and catchy old Hindi songs recomposed with a touch of contemporary beats and flavour. Dafli Wale, Dum Maro Dum, Hawa Hawai, Khoya khoya Chand, Laila mein laila are some of Latest bollywood songs the peppy yesteryear hits that have been reintroduced in latest Bollywood songs and are enjoying even more recognition than before.

The ever growing popularity of latest Bollywood music is slowly but steadily taking it international too. Hollywood has long back sat up and taken notice of the Indian musical talent and many international artists like Snoop Dog, Ludacris, Akon and Drake have already belted out smashing hits for Hindi movies. This fusion of two completely different musical styles has delighted listeners across age groups by providing a unique blend of sounds and instruments.

Bollywood music over the years has metamorphosed into a feature that is constantly evolving to suit different needs and emotions. Be it old music in an upbeat new avatar or groovy item numbers or soulful musical renditions, our Hindi movie watching experience is incomplete without songs. Therefore, it can be rightly said that the Bollywood musical Phoenix has risen from the ashes after a prolonged dry spell and is out to prove its worth, popularity and versatility yet again.
