Chef Sandra Lee gets active in Manhattan recovery efforts

Sandra Lee at Bowery Mission

MARIELA LOMBARD FOR NEW YORK D

Celebrity chef Sandra Lee volunteered with Citymeals on Wheels over the weekend to bring meals to senior citizens stranded at home from Hurricane Sandy.  Lee also volunteered at the Bowery Mission, cooking dinners for the homeless.  And, if giving her time wasn't enough, Lee presented the Bowery Mission $25,000 from company that owns Kmart and Sears, where Lee's houseware line is sold.  Lee also got Sears/Kmart to donate goods filling 5 big rig trucks, driven to New York from Georgia.  A big impact on many lives from one compassionate and talented chef.

Hurricane Sandra helped mend the shreds of Hurricane Sandy Saturday.

It was exhausting to follow celebrity chef Sandra Lee around New York Saturday as she climbed stairs to help serve Citymeals to seniors stranded in buildings without working elevators, and then served dinner to the hungry men, women and children who’d shown up to the Bowery Mission.
