When we heard the team behind Chopps American Bar and Grill at the Boston Marriott Burlington involvedConsulting Chef Daniel Bruce of Boston’s Meritage fame and Chef de Cuisine David Verdo, we knew it was a surefire winning combination. The former Summer/Winter restaurant has been entirely renovated and now offers a beautiful dining room complete with open kitchen, 10-seat chef’s table, communal table and sleek U-shaped bar lined with flat screen TVs.Chef Daniel Bruce and Chef de Cuisine David Verdohave created a well balanced menu that features all natural organic steaks and local seafood.
Our attentive server told us the oysters of the day were from Wellfleet and got us started with a bottle of Estancia cabernet. It’s hard to not get filled up on the warm chive rolls served in a Staub pan. We sampled the bison carpaccio, a delicious combination of tender bison paired up with fresh burrata and micro basil. The delicate yellowfin tuna tartar tasted even better on the crispy wontons topped with white soy and fresh ginger. Our server suggested we try the Maine Jonah crab cakes and we were glad he did. They arrived paired up with a perfect fall flavor from the Granny Smith and jicama slaw.
We couldn’t resist trying the special steak of the day - a bone-in Tomahawk chop (sliced and plated) served to a juicy perfection and beautifully presented. Steaks here are served with a selection of bearnaise, chimichurri (our favorite) or Chopps Steak Sauce. Steaks are served a la carte and are best complemented by sides like the addictingly crispy Chopps tots, crispy artichokes and heavenly mac and cheese.
We also sampled the line caught cod served with fingerlings and corn puree and the uber fresh East Coast halibut swimming in a lemongrass broth with mushroom, carrots and pea shoots. Other dishes include Maine lobster gratinee, diver scallops, chopped Wagyu sirloin and boneless short ribs.
Desserts here are worth every indulgent calorie so be sure to save some room for their creative frozen dark chocolate and espresso soufflé, light lemon meringue pie, delicious New York style cheesecake or a sampling of local gelati and ice creams.
Chopps is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is live entertainment Tuesdays through Saturdays (check the website for details).
