A good pair of shoes is a worthwhile investment for anyone. Buying a new pair would really require you to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars especially if we are talking about a luxury pair of leathers. With this in mind, it is very critical to take care of your shoes and do your best to keep them pristine in order to make your spending worth it.

Protecting your shoes from the hot and cold weather temperature are two of the most important things that you need to consider in order to extend their life expectancy. Shoes react to too much heat exposure as well as coldness and moisture, especially if you are wearing suede or leather type of materials.

Aside from weatherproofing, investing in a good set of polish materials is key in providing long lasting protection to your shoes. Here are some easy tricks on how to do it the right way.

Trick #1: Know the Difference between Wax and Cream

Okay, so stop looking at wax and cream as two identical shoe polish because shoe experts say they are not. They can be used alternately or you can use both but this depends on the type of shoe material you have. Cream comes first usually and wax comes next to application.

When it comes to benefits, wax provides extra gloss and protection to your shoes while creams could help you clean your shoes easier while providing moderate shine and polish together.

Trick #2:  Black vs. Brown

Another key reminder to keep, you should always ensure that your cloths and brushes for your black and brown shoes are well separated in order not to mess with their original color.

This is a common mistake to many shoe owners once they kept everything altogether in their storage cabinet. Putting label on your brushes and other polish materials could help you avoid any incident of discoloration and could help you clean them easily.

Trick #3: Match the Shade

Match the shade of the wax or cream exactly on the color of your shoes. You can test if it matches your shoe color by putting a small amount on the edge or any hidden area of your shoes before putting the application on the entire surface.

Always pay attention to the specific areas where cream has been applied in order to precisely determine any discoloration that might have took place. If you are in doubt with the shade that you have chosen, it is better to always go for a shade lighter not darker.

Trick #4: Protect Your Surface with Newspaper

Polishing shoes could turn out messy especially if you are using dark colored polish creams. In order to resolve this, you can put used newspapers on the surface to make sure that even it your polish may flake off a bit, it won’t mess on your clothes or in the floor.

Trick #5: Some leathers are not meant to be polished

This information is a keeper. You should be aware that some leather shoes are not intended to be polished with colored creams. Only use mink oil or shoe grease because of the different grade of leather material used to fabricate it.

One common brand that is not likely to be polished are Doc Marten shoes.

Trick #6: Too much polish won’t do any help

Anything that is too much won’t do any good even on your shoes. Always make it a point that you apply polish only when it is needed. You can wipe out dust and dirt on a regular basis but do not let it always go together with polish as this can damage your shoes due to buildup of old polish.

If you cannot avoid putting polish at a more frequent time, be sure to apply it only on thin layer.

Enjoy your new shoes for a full lifetime with these easy to follow tricks!
