Luxury Sedan vs. Sports Car – Making the Right Choice

Luxury Sedan vs. Sports Car

Ivan

There are a lot of exciting new cars coming out this year, and we have plenty of beautiful models to choose from. The trouble is that it can be difficult to choose the right high-end car. Sports cars are fun, powerful and inherently sexy – they draw attention and make people gasp. On the other hand big luxury sedans have a good amount of power and drive fairly well, but are unsurpassed in terms of atmosphere and the quality of the ride – they have an air of sophistication about them and make you seem like a serious and powerful individual. You may think you love sports cars, only to discover that you love the idea of them, and actually prefer classiness and comfort to speed. Here is a short guideline that will help you make the right decision when buying your next car.

Weighing your practical needs vs. your desires

This is a very simple, yet underappreciated point – your dreams and desires don’t always match up with the cold hard reality. Even if you’ve always dreamed of owning a Ferrari, but need to do a lot of traveling and carry lots of gear with you on a daily basis, e.g. golf clubs, a big sedan with a sizeable boot might be a much better option.

Understanding the limitations of each car type

On the most basic level, you can compare the high performance and very limited storage space of a Porsche 911 with the astonishing interior and unimpressive maneuverability of Rolls Royce Phantom, but there are also some finer differences that you might not notice from the start. An expensive sports car will likely spend the winter in the garage, but a big Lexus can be a nightmare to park.

Choosing between comfort and performance

The line between luxury sedans and sports cars is sometimes a bit blurry, particularly when we get into the higher-priced German sedans. There are plenty of performance-oriented cars that feel like you are driving on a cloud, and quite a few big luxurious cars with powerful engines and impressive characteristics. However, it is always a fine balance, and the scales will have to tip in one direction. For example, with sport models most of the money goes into engine and equipment that affects performance the most. With luxury cars, you’re paying for an exceptional interior and flawless user experience.

Take a careful look at safety ratings

No matter what kind of image you want to present or what type of car you enjoy more, your safety should be a priority. Generally speaking, luxury sedans are larger and heavier than sports cars, which means that they are able to absorb a greater amount of force while still keeping the passengers safe. However, there are plenty of sports cars with good safety ratings as well, so make sure to do your research before committing to any particular model.

Make sure you know what you are paying for

When you’re paying top dollar for a car, you should expect top quality, but manufacturers often leave out a few key facts about the car in their marketing. They’ll provide a fairly reasonable price and you may think that you can get a good German luxury sedan for the same price as a sports car you were looking at, and end up deciding to go with comfort and luxury. However, you’ll often find that the base price doesn’t include any of the accessories that truly make a difference in terms of comfort and utility, and you essentially get less luxury in a base level sedan than you would in a supposedly mainly performance oriented sports car. On the other hand, even some supercars go great extremes to squeeze out some more speed, and end up throwing out any useful accessory they can to cut the weight.

Only when we take a closer look at how a car fits into our lifestyle, what we actually need from it the most and what kind of ride makes us happy, can we make a choice that we won’t regret. No one wants to have to go through the hassle of trying to sell a car after a few months because it doesn’t suit the very well, so it’s best to look at all the different angles and determine what suits you the most.
