Earlier this week Dov Charney made headlines sparking controversy and rumors when he said thatAmerican Apparel was in initial conversationsto design Olympic apparel and merchandise for the Russian 2014 Olympics Team.
But, as the truth emerges, it appears that Russia’s Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee has no plans to manufacture its uniforms in the US.
“The Sochi 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Organizing Committee is not in negotiations with American Apparel for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi,” a rep from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) said. “The official outfitter of the Russian team up to 2016 is the company Bosco Sport.”
Moscow-based Bosco Sport later confirmed to a trade that they do indeed have a contract with the ROC to produce Olympic uniforms for the Russian team through the 2016 Olympics. So what’s up with that, Charney? Charney has declined to comment to publications about the ordeal and what conversations he has had with Bosco. Now we can go back to focusing on Ralph Lauren, very American Olympic gear and merchandise.
