One of the best things about living in New England is heading down to Cape Cod each summer. From the white sand beaches and gray shingled cottages to the salt water taffy shops and ice cream stands, there is nothing quite like a visit here.
If you haven’t yet discovered the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth, Mass., you are in for a special treat. The full-service resort is set on a private Cape Cod beach so you can walk out of your room (be sure to request an oceanfront) directly onto the white sand beach. The view from our room was spectacular overlooking the nearby boats, kayakers and parasailers. There are 263 guest rooms here that range from standard with king or double beds to gas fireplace and sundeck rooms (large enough to accommodate up to four guests).
The hotel has so many amenities and activities that there is no need to venture off-property. From an outdoor saline pool to a heated indoor pool, there are many options for those who don’t want to sit at the beach all day. There is also a pool deck with poolside bar and menu from Red’s Restaurant available for takeout or dining poolside at the Café. We ordered a dozen oysters that were delivered in a plastic container filled with ice in case we decided to enjoy on the beach – doesn’t get much better than that.
There is a fitness center on-site and they often host fitness classes in the pools (be sure to check the calendar of daily activities when you arrive). Spend the day at the beach and rent one of the water crafts or take windsurfing lessons. They also offer bike rentals if you want to take a ride around the area.
As for dining options, we love Red's Restaurant and Lounge for casual fare and for a late night drink. The Ocean View Room hosts a massive brunch that includes everything from omelet stations and cold cereals to scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes and a table filled with bagels, muffins and pastries.
The hotel overlooks Old Silver Beach and is surrounded by old-fashioned New England cottages to offer that quintessential Cape Cod experience visitors like us love.
