Online video services like Netflix and Hulu Plus have made many people cancel their cable and look online for all of their at-home entertainment needs. Though many that adhere to the idea that only cable television can deliver the newest programming, Hulu Plus and on-demand download services allow users to access the latest television shows and also add the benefit of watching them whenever the user wants.
These streaming services also give older shows and movies a new light as older entertainment is given a new audience by those browsing through the massive selections. And, since so many devices that can connect directly to the TV for viewing have these services available (laptops, video game consoles, Apple TV, Roku, etc), there really isn’t much of a need for people to continue spending any of their income on a cable subscription. The only true downside is that watching live sports events is difficult, if not downright impossible in most cases. However, the tradeoff is well worth it for a growing number of consumers.
