Superman #1 - Personal copy of Jerome Siegel set to trash Comic Book records

Superman #1 Comic Book

The first Superman ever - the comic book when the man of steel made his debut with humanity. While collectors are sure to confuse this one with the actual news stand copy of Superman #1 that sold for a record shattering $1.5 million USD , its not. This particular Superman (also #1) is a unique one that was a personal copy owned by  Superman writer/creator Jerry Siegel.

The book beats the writing  "Personal Copy of Jerome Siegel" at the top of the first page so that there would be no mistaking who it belonged to. It was written by Siegel himself on the day he got his copy. This particular copy remained in the possession of Jerry until he passed away in January 1996. This comic of Superman has been graded as 5.5 and only a small chip at the bottom of the spine prevents it from being put in a much higher category.

Given that it was owned by Jerome Siegel, the current bid of $118,000 seems too less to be true. Then again , there are about 3 days left in this auction which is going on at Comic Connect and the most serious bidders like to wait till the last moment to prevent more speculation. The auction ends on Friday 12/02/2011.

This issue of the comic is supposedly the third most valuable comic book in the world. For similar references read up on Spiderman or Captain America if these are your heroes.
